The two-part blue neon sign at Europaplatz is probably one of the oldest in Karlsruhe. It can already be seen on the building in a photo from July 1960.
The device is currently out of service.
The left side of the facade was renovated. The first part of the lettering (“City”) shines again.
July (/Oktober) 2018
The work on the facade has been completed and the scaffolding has been taken down. Both parts of the lettering have been renewed and shine in an intense blue. As I learned during a conversation at the anniversary celebration “65 years City Universum Karlsruhe” on 09.10.2018, however, they are now no longer classic light tubes, but LED elements.
